When in doubt, write something

I’ve thrown two writing projects into turmoil this month and who knows what they will look like when they emerge. I like the word turmoil. I think of it as a big kettle that boils away on an open fire. Into it I toss my writing projects, my schedule, my work, my travel, and generally my life. Then at lunch I dip a ladle into the mess and slurp up whatever comes out.

Amazingly—unlike that vat of acid Blofeld tries to dump 007 into—my kettle of turmoil does not dissolve everything into a single mass. What I dip out is always quite chunky. It might be flavored with other projects, but when I consume it, I know what it is. Sometimes, I don’t know what it is until I consume it.

Somehow today, I will bring order to the chaos (another good word for turmoil) in at least an hour of my life. I will write, edit, or publish something new. I will design, search, discover something new. And I will polish something old until it looks like new (maybe the floor of my office).

Is your life in turmoil? Have a sip.
