The Yellow Road of Texas

Heading west into Texas and cutting across the panhandle revealed yet another breathtaking vista. I knew that my travels would be taking me across a sparsely 67Texaspopulated part of the country as I had left the Interstate and was no longer “in Kansas, Toto.” The two lane highway stretched out in front of me and I was a surprised to find the speed limit was still 70. I encountered other vehicles only once every few minutes or when I approached a small town. I stopped for breakfast/lunch at a café in Memphis TX, dropped a postcard in the mail, and then was on the road again. Outside Silverton, I crossed the Schott Cap, a pass over a ridge that showed just how beautiful Texas could be. It felt like stepping into an old western. Did any of those old films feature a horse named Prius?
