Happy Summer Solstice

Well, in just about 4 minutes, the Earth passes the point at which the northern hemisphere is tilted furthest away from the sun and begins rocking back on its axis toward the shorter days of fall and winter. It is midsummer.

I know that to some of you who have been sweltering in 90-100 degree heat, or who have been ravaged by tornadoes and summer storms, that it is welcome news to think this is the middle and now we tilt back toward normal. But here in Seattle, in spite of a beautiful day today, it has been a season of cold and wet. My joints all ache. I'm still sleeping with a heavy comforter over me at night.

But, the hottest part of the year is the period from Solstice to Equinox, so I'm filled with hopes that I will dry out and stop aching. Just to make sure of it, I'm going to head for Palm Springs next Saturday (week from tomorrow) where it is 117 degrees and zero humidity. Ahhhh... Don't expect me to be on the golf course. I'm just going to bake.

Anyway, there are always fun things happening at solstice and I'm looking forward to the rest of the summer. Hope you all have a wonderful one!

(Wife and daughter will be back in town in just a few hours. Hooray!)
