Solstice in Seven Days

I really haven't been in the "decorate-madly-I'm-going-to-have-a-party" mood yet. All the deadlines at work seem to be converging on one spec of light December 22 and I'm taking the 21st off to cook and prepare for the annual Yule gathering Wednesday night. A project I thought I was going to be finished with today suddenly has a new deadline of January 30. Hmmm. Didn't I just say I was going to edit my book and get it ready for submission during January? *sigh*

So I'm making my list of all the things I need to do this weekend to prepare for the gathering Wednesday.
  • Wallpaper: Q Bath, LR holes

  • Get pot for tree

  • Dig tree and bring in

  • Move furniture

  • Bring up table and position

  • Order Beef

  • Take Q shopping

  • Burn fire in FP

  • Make Solstice logs

  • Get out Solstice decorations

  • Sort out Tree decorations and put some on a yarn rope.

  • Move bed.

I'm sure there's more. Every conversation I have with DW or DD includes "I'll put it on the list for this weekend."

I actually considered not holding a Solstice celebration this year. It would have been the first time in 20 years. But, I couldn't find anyplace to go hide, especially with the Barcelona trip coming up in February, so DW made up extraordinary invitations and we sent them out and 20 people have RSVP'd that they are coming.

Want a peak into what Solstice is like at our house? Check out my site "Ritual Reality" where I try to remember to record a little about all the rituals that I conduct. (Okay, so I really only hit about every second or third one, but no one reads it anyway.)

Well, almost 9:00 and already I'm so tired I'm going to bed. If I start now, maybe I'll make it by 10:00.

That is an incredibly beautiful story. I hope you incorporate it in one of your novels. It makes my Christmas celebrations seem rather dull.
