Taking my Pulse

I have a new Pulse Smartpen and a whole stack of notebooks. I'm wanting to use them. I woke up this morning wanting to write in a journal (stuff I wouldn't share out loud), and I got to thinking about the new Pulse journals that I'm keeping to start the New Year with. Then I thought, "Why?"

Why wait to pass an arbitrary line in the sand in order to start using my new journals? It's like New Year's resolutions. Why not have a December resolution and start now? For that matter, I could have a December 19 resolution and start in the morning. It amazes me that I decide I'll do something when... and then consciously avoid doing it until... I'll start a diet next week. I'll get down to writing every day on LJ after the first of the year. I'll start catching up on the articles I have to write after the holiday.

Don't get me wrong. I love celebrating important days, no matter how arbitrary they might be when examined closely. But I turned... Let's rephrase that... I'm in the top of the sixth inning of life now and it's my turn to bat. So do I save my stuff for my next at-bat? How stupid would that be? Coach says step up to the plate and swing-away. I'll strike out, or I'll get a hit, or perhaps even *gasp* a homerun. Maybe the pitchers will be so afraid of my prowess they'll walk me to get to an easier hitter. The thinkg is, this is my chance. It's not waiting until the New Year. It's here now.

I'm taking my new Pulse Journal to bed now.

Cool tool! I take a lot of notes as part of my job, either during interviews or at conferences. I'll be interested to hear about your experiences with this thing.
