More stupid censorship...

This just came across my news reader: China drops the curtain on "Da Vinci Code". Now doesn't that beat all, and kind of make you laugh. In spite of all the Christian right and Catholic protest against the film, the countries that have banned it are the PRC, Fiji, Pakistan, some Indian states, "and a few other countries."

I have to wonder, "Why?" Well there is no reason given in China. They don't need no stinking reasons. The others cite offending religious sensibilities. Ah yes. The sacred feminine. That is offensive. I'm thinking maybe China did it in an effort to patch things up with the Vatican.

Let's put this flatly: No person's religion or religious sensibilities are a reason to regulate or ban creative expression, whether we are talking about Salmon Rushdie's work, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's, Dan Brown's, Ron Howard's, or even (ugh!) Mel Gibson's.

But China??? I just have to chuckle.
