Getting ready for Solstice
Only 11 guests for Solstice RSVP'd for tomorrow night including the 13-year olds, there will be 14 of us total. It will be the most intimate gathering we've had for solstice since we moved here in '91. I've collected a piece of a broken tree trunk from the storm for this year's Yule log. It is very dramatic and I'll post pictures tomorrow or Friday. Opened the box of Christmas ornaments and discovered that since we've been doing this (22 years) we've collected over 400 ornaments. I had a dream of putting them all on the tree this year, but even with a big tree we could only fit about 75 or 100. I lost count. I'd like to figure out some way to display all of them, but the house just isn't that big.
So, now I really have to shower since we've set 12:30 as our departure time and it's almost noon now. I'll post much more about Solstice later. Of course, you can read about all my pagan celebrations at Ritual Reality.
Having survived a big public Yule, our little coven is heading off to the woods on Friday night for a solstice vigil. It has been our custom to offer the sun a cup of coffee, but in light of global warming, we're considering an offering of decaf this year.
I don't know how we managed it but D and I both have the day off; it'll be a good day. Hope yours is as well!
